Ląd nad Wartą
The Cistercians from the cloister in Łekno, with its roots in the abbey of Altenberg near Cologne settled here in 1175, on the basis of the foundation act of the prince Mieszko III the Old. The abbey of Ląd came to its greatest splendour due to the abbot Nicolas Anthony Łukomski (1697-1750), a great patron of art and reformer of Polish Cistercian cloisters. During a visit in the post-cistercian cloister in Ląd it is possible to see its most precious monument - oratorio of the St. Jacob the Apostle (polychrome of its inside comes from ca. 1372) and the church organ, constructed by a Cistercian brother, Joseph Koegler
